(Patria) - At the session of the Council of Peoples of the Republika Srpska, no agreement was reached regarding the initiated mechanism for the protection of the vital national interest of the Bosniak People's Club on the law which defines that symbols of Serbia are used alongside the display of RS symbols.
This concerns the Law on Amendments to the Law on the Use of the Flag, Coat of Arms and Anthem of the RS, which was adopted at the proposal of the President of the National Assembly of the RS, Nenad Stevandić, at the last regular session of the NSRS.
Representatives of the Bosniak people in the Council of Peoples of the RS initiated the mechanism for the protection of vital interest, on which no agreement was reached today at the session of the Council of Peoples of the RS.
Therefore, this law has been forwarded to the procedure of the Joint Commission of the NSRS and the Council of Peoples of the RS.
The Joint Commission also received the Law on Amendments to the Law on the Implementation of Decisions of the Commission for the Protection of National Monuments established in accordance with Annex 8 of the General Framework Agreement for Peace in Bosnia and Herzegovina. No agreement was reached on this Law either, after the Bosniak Club initiated the mechanism for the protection of vital national interest.
Alija Tabaković, a delegate in the Council of Peoples of the RS, said that the Bosniak Club considers that the Law on the Use of the Flag, Coat of Arms and Anthem of the RS endangers the vital and national interest because it introduces the display of Serbian symbols.
"These are symbols about which the Constitutional Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina has already ruled and declared those symbols unconstitutional, after which the symbols were withdrawn from use," Tabaković explained.
Regarding the Law on Amendments to the Law on the Implementation of Decisions of the Commission for the Protection of National Monuments, Tabaković says that the prefix "Bosnian" is being removed from the Law.
"That is why it is unclear who will inherit if a monument is declared. Will it be inherited by Bosnia and Herzegovina or the RS?" Tabaković stated.
If the Joint Commission also fails to reach an agreement, the Constitutional Court of the RS will rule on these two laws.
