Besima Borić, candidate for president of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), opposes the unification of the SDP with the Union of Social Democrats (SDU), she told reporters a few moments before the start of the extraordinary congress of the SDP, which is being held today in Sarajevo, and where, in addition to the election of a new party president and new leadership, the unification of these two parties will also be discussed, writes the Bosnian news agency Patria.
The leaders of the SDP BiH and the SDU, with Zlatko Lagumdžija and Miro Lazović at the helm, signed an agreement on the unification of these two parties at the beginning of December. If this agreement is accepted at the extraordinary congress of the SDP on Saturday, these two parties will act united under the name SDP BiH.
According to the signed agreement, 12 members will enter the Presidency and the Main Board of the SDP, of which three members will be from the SDU.
- We will see what the congress will say today regarding this. I will respect the will of the majority, but my opinion is still that it is not yet time for these two parties to unite – said Borić, writes NAP.
