Veterans and FBiH Government Representatives Agree on Draft Law, Urgent Session of FBiH Parliament Sought

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - The Committee for Veterans' Affairs and the Working Group of the Government of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina have harmonized the text of the Law on Demobilized Soldiers, which will be sent to the parliamentary procedure.

Representatives of veterans and the Government agreed at today's meeting on the proposal of the said law, which will cover several hundred thousand members of the Army of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Croatian Defense Council.

"It is positive that we have agreed on the Draft Law on the Rights of Veterans, and it should be noted that an analysis of its implementation will be made after one year. This law and these conclusions treat several hundred thousand veterans of the Army of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Croatian Defense Council. However, if there is procrastination and sessions are not called within the next two days, we will consider the situation within our bodies, but we will not give up on it. With this law, we will cover all members of the Army of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Croatian Defense Council, and we will resolve the status of all those who do not meet the conditions for retirement, who are 57 years old and who were in the army for one year and at least 12 months on the unemployment register. Veterans over 65 do not need to have one year on the unemployment register. For those under 57, the obligation remains for the cantons to resolve their status in agreement with us," said Munib Karić on behalf of the coordination of veterans' associations stemming from the Army of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Croatian Defense Council.

He added that the Ministry is obliged to issue a card within the next year that will be valid for all members of the Army of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

According to Karić, these cards will bring certain benefits for all members, such as priority in medical treatment, adding that every unemployed veteran will have health insurance paid on a monthly basis.

He also announced the separation of the combat and non-combat parts in the veterans' register.

"I am satisfied that the representatives of veterans and the government supported the Draft Law on the Rights of Veterans, which has been sent into procedure to be adopted as soon as possible. Those involved in drafting the law have been asked to refrain from additional amendments so that it can be adopted as soon as possible. We insisted that sessions of both houses of the FBiH Parliament be urgently convened and a budget rebalance adopted to pass the law, so that veterans can start enjoying benefits from July. Therefore, health insurance for veterans will be ensured, priority in employment will be ensured, and for the first time, criminal provisions for employers who do not comply, financial compensation for veterans over 57 who are unemployed and have at least 12 months of military service, and 5 KM for each month for those who were in the army. Once again, I thank, first of all, the representatives of veterans, but also the representatives of the Government with whom we have reached an implementable solution," said Federal Minister Salko Bukvarević.
