Local elections approaching: Problems in SDP surface, Stojanović supports Bogićević

(Patria) - Head of the Municipal Organization Centar SDP Igor Stojanović spoke out after Bogić Bogićević, a prominent BiH politician, social democrat, and former candidate for the Mayor of Sarajevo, stated that two councilors who participated in sabotaging his election as mayor have been admitted to SDP. In 2021, Bogićević withdrew his candidacy and publicly stated that he did not want to be part of that political mud. He directly called out Irfan Čengić, the current mayor of Stari Grad, who admitted the two councilors, and who caused Bogićević the shame of not being elected mayor. SDP then nominated Benjamin Karić, who was elected Mayor of Sarajevo.

In his address on social media, Stojanović emphasized that it is evident "that the state and leadership in our SDP are not at a high level, and certainly not at a level that Bogić Bogićević would be proud of".

"Councilors who voted against him in the mayoral candidacy have recently been admitted to SDP membership. All well-intentioned SDP members should be concerned and initiate progressive forces that will defend the principles and dignity of everyone for whom unity is paramount," Stojanović stated.

In the comments on that post, there were numerous criticisms of the actions of SDP president Nermin Nikšić, as well as some other SDP members, but also directed at Stojanović himself. Denis Bećirović also received criticism because since taking office as a member of the Presidency of BiH, he has not attended party body meetings.

Those more informed state that the situation in SDP is not good even in the municipal organizations, especially in Sarajevo. Given that local elections are approaching, it can be expected that problems will begin to surface and that there will be more such statements.

We remind you that the mandate of the current president, Nermin Nikšić, has been extended until the local elections are concluded, and at the latest until May 2025. According to the Statute, Nikšić is no longer eligible to run for president.
