Former Mayor of Sanski Most Faris Hasanbegović finally convicted for abuse of office

(Patria) - The Cantonal Court in Bihać confirmed the verdict by which the former mayor of the Municipality of Sanski Most, Faris Hasanbegović, was found guilty of abuse of position or authority.

This made the verdict of the Municipal Court in Sanski Most, rendered on March 28 this year, final, by which Hasanbegović was sentenced to eight months in prison, but conditionally – the sentence will not be executed if he does not commit a new criminal offense within a year and a half.

"During January 2021, using his official authority as the mayor of the Municipality of Sanski Most, Hasanbegović created formal conditions for announcing a public advertisement to fill a position of an employee in the Finance, Treasury, and Common Affairs Service of the Municipality of Sanski Most, thereby enabling only one candidate to apply for the competition with a special requirement regarding professional qualifications.

After the competition procedure was completed, that candidate was hired for an indefinite period," stated the Una-Sana Canton Prosecutor's Office.

The court assessed that Hasanbegović abused his position as mayor by his actions, knowingly violating the principles of equality and legality in public employment.

With this verdict of the Cantonal Court in Bihać, the verdict of the Municipal Court in Sanski Most became final, thus ending the multi-year process against the former mayor of that municipality.
