Former fighters marked the day of the formation of the Territorial Defense of RBiH, writes the BiH news agency Patria.

The Territorial Defense of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina (TO RBiH) was the first formal armed force of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina at the beginning of the bloody conflicts in the country in 1992. It was formed on April 8, 1992, in response to the Serbian aggression against the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The TO RBiH was, in a way, a continuation of the previous territorial defense, which was a reserve component of the Yugoslav People's Army (JNA). Its peacetime strength was 317,000 soldiers. From the TO units loyal to the Presidency of BiH, the TO BiH was formed as the state army of independent RBiH.

The TO BiH was poorly armed from the beginning, as the JNA had taken over warehouses in some municipalities in BiH where the weapons of the former TO were stored.

A few months later, the TO was transformed into the Army of RBiH.

Members of the Association for the Protection of the Name and Preservation of the Tradition of the Territorial Defense of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina today marked the Day of the Territorial Defense of the Republic of BiH in Sarajevo by laying flowers at the "Kovači" Martyrs' Cemetery, at the Koševo Stadium, the Eternal Flame memorial, and at the cemetery near the Alipašina Mosque.

A ceremonial academy was held at the Home of the Armed Forces of BiH, writes NAP.
