BiH to host Seventh International Waqf Conference

Bosnia and Herzegovina will host the Seventh International Waqf Conference next year, reports the BH News Agency Patria.

The conference will be held in mid-May during the event "Waqf Days in BiH – 2015."

Dr. Senaid Zajimović, Director of the Waqf Directorate of BiH, previously stated for Patria that waqfs should and can be one of the main economic and social stabilizers in society, which benefactors left precisely to serve and benefit the community.

The International Waqf Conference is held every two years in a different country. It addresses the latest issues and waqf problems and attempts to cover newly emerged issues that require answers in the context of time and space during the three-day conference with numerous sessions from a scientific perspective.

One of the issues that will be addressed at the next conference is the possibility of establishing new waqfs in one country from the income of another waqf from a different country. There is a fatwa that currently does not allow this method of establishing waqfs.

There are a large number of waqfs throughout BiH, and many cities in the country were founded on the waqfs of earlier benefactors. However, a large number of these waqfs were confiscated by previous authorities in BiH and usurped as state property, and only a small portion of these waqfs has been returned to date.

The offer to the Islamic Community in BiH to host the International Waqf Conference next year was extended by the General Kuwaiti Committee for Waqfs and the Islamic Development Bank from Jeddah.

Forty scholars from the Islamic world and representatives of Islamic communities from the region's countries will participate in the Conference in Sarajevo, reports Patria.
