Biden considering diplomatic boycott of Beijing Olympics

(Patria) - US President Joe Biden said he is considering a diplomatic boycott of the Winter Olympics in Beijing next February, in protest against human rights violations in China.

- That is something we are considering, he told reporters.

A diplomatic boycott would mean not sending government leaders to represent Washington at the competitions, but American athletes would still participate.

More hardline Republicans are calling on Biden to announce a full US boycott to condemn the repression of Uyghurs in Xinjiang, which the US government qualifies as genocide.

However, numerous representatives from both sides, both Republican and Democratic, including House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Republican Senator Mitt Romney, are advocating for a diplomatic boycott.
