(Patria) - US President Joe Biden will sign a strategic partnership agreement with Vietnam during a state visit to the Southeast Asian country in mid-September, Reuters reported, citing Politico.
Politico cited three people familiar with the planning of the agreement. The agreement will enable new bilateral cooperation that will boost Vietnam's efforts to develop its high-tech sector in various fields, including semiconductor manufacturing and artificial intelligence.
A source familiar with the plans told Reuters that Biden is considering a trip in September to the G20 summit to discuss the partnership with Vietnam.
Let's recall, Vietnam, which borders China, is an important link in US plans to curb China. On the other hand, Vietnam is seeking an ally in Washington to protect itself from Chinese regional dominance.
