BHRT hits a wall: Solution in the coming weeks or shutdown, but other institutions will also feel the consequences

(Patria) - BHRT's debt to JP Elektroprivreda BiH alone amounts to more than 1.3 million KM. Forced collection or disconnection of electricity would mean a work stoppage not only for BHRT, but also for other public services, telecom operators, and other institutions that use BHRT's transmitter network.

The acting General Director of BHRT, Belmin Karamehmedović, warned the competent institutions, the Presidency of BiH, the Council of Ministers of BiH, the OHR, the EU Delegation, and relevant parliamentary committees, and the Government of FBiH about this, reminding them that their founder, the Parliamentary Assembly of BiH, is the eleventh time.

In addition to the debt for electricity, BHRT also has debts to BH Telecom for broadcasting matches, as well as to Sarajevogas. The debt to the Indirect Taxation Authority of BiH for VAT is almost 10 million KM.

In February, the deadline for settling the debt to the EBU in the amount of 21.5 million KM expires. The EBU has already sent a warning that it will seek the blocking of BHRT's accounts and proceed with the sale of BHRT's assets.

BHRT's total debt for taxes and contributions on employee salaries is 54,920,745.00 KM, of which the amount of 2,406,943.00 KM has been litigated in court proceedings initiated by employees and former employees.

At this moment, the debt of RTRs to BHRT is over 100 million KM.

BHRT proposes that the Council of Ministers of BiH provide them with part of the funds, part from the funds of the Communications Regulatory Agency, and that a way be found to pay them an amount of 900,000 KM monthly as compensation for revenue not paid by RTRs.

If the reaction they sought and informed the authorities about all the problems during 2025 is still absent, BHRT has a few weeks of operation left before a complete shutdown.

BHRT has about 800 employees, and hundreds more collaborators depend on cooperation with BHRT.

The BHRT Workers' Union addressed the OHR today with a request to get involved in resolving the issue of BHRT's financing, and the guest of tomorrow's edition of the show Jutro za sve is precisely the High Representative Christian Schmidt.
