Bosnia and Herzegovina homeless football team arrives in Glasgow

The Bosnia and Herzegovina homeless football team has arrived in Glasgow for the 14th Homeless World Cup 2016, which is being held from July 10 to 16 in Scotland.

- We all feel great. We have been wonderfully received here, and our fellow citizens from the congregation in Glasgow welcomed us and hosted us for lunch. The atmosphere among the players ahead of the competition is fantastic. Tomorrow is the opening ceremony, and on that day we play our first match against Norway at 1:00 PM on field number 2. On Monday, July 11, we play against the hosts Scotland at 1:00 PM on the central field. The same day we also play against Hong Kong at 5:00 PM on field number 3. On the third day of competition, we play against Grenada at 1:00 PM on field number 2, and against Egypt at 5:00 PM also on field number 2 - said Elmedin Škrebo, team leader and head of this MFS – EMMAUS project, under whose organization our team is once again participating in the World Cup.

This year, besides MFS – EMMAUS, the trip and participation were primarily supported by the Federal Ministry of Culture and Sports, the Mayor of Gračanica Nusret Helić, the Mayor of Doboj Obren Petrović, the Mayor of Lukavac Dževad Mujkić, the Football Association of Bosnia and Herzegovina, PZU pharmacies La Vita, the Association Pomozi.ba, as well as the companies Remont-Zanat, Euro-Vez, and Oaza from Tešanj.

The best result of the Bosnia and Herzegovina team so far is the second place at the World Cup in Chile in 2014. The rule for all teams is to change the entire squad every year, and this year Bosnia and Herzegovina is represented by Asmir Mehić, Danijel Kolanović, Eldin Baraković, Mehmed Baščelić, Jovan Malinović, Sejfo Beganović, Sefer Halilović, and Esmin Mehanović.

This year, 48 men's teams and 16 women's teams are participating in the World Cup in Glasgow. For the Bosnia and Herzegovina team, this is the fifth participation.
