Bosnian mathematicians competing for a place at the Olympics in South Africa

Final qualifications for the International Mathematical Olympiad in July this year in Cape Town (South Africa), for Bosnian-Herzegovinian high school students will be held at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering in Lukavica on May 10 and 11, writes the Bosnian news agency Patria (NAP).

45 students from all over BiH will compete for the best mathematicians who will represent BiH's flags in South Africa, namely the ten best mathematicians from West Herzegovina, 15 students from Republika Srpska, and 20 students from the Federation of BiH, who have proven to be the best at previous cantonal and entity competitions.

The three students who win the most points will go to the International Mathematical Olympiad in Cape Town, which will be held from July 3 to 13.

Prof. Dr. Nedžad Dukić from the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics in Sarajevo told Patria that our country has exceptionally talented mathematicians, and that BiH students bring home medals from various international competitions every year. He hopes that Bosnia and Herzegovina's education will be honored again this year.

Let us remind you that Harun Hindija, who is currently a successful student at the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics in Sarajevo, won a silver medal at the International Mathematical Olympiad held in Argentina in 2012, while Ratko Darda from Prijedor and Vladimir Ivković from Nevesinje won bronze medals, writes Patria.
