Bosnian mathematicians competing for placement at the Olympics in South Africa

Final qualifications for the International Mathematical Olympiad in July this year in Cape Town (South Africa), for Bosnian-Herzegovinian high school students, began today at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering in Lukavica, and will last until tomorrow, writes the Bosnian news agency Patria (NAP).

46 students from all over BiH will compete for the best mathematicians who will represent BiH's flags in South Africa, although it was initially announced that there would be 45 competitors. 11 top mathematicians from western Herzegovina, 15 students from Republika Srpska, and 20 students from the Federation of BiH, who showed the best results at previous cantonal and entity competitions, have arrived in Lukavica.

The three students who achieve the highest number of points will go to the International Mathematical Olympiad in Cape Town, which will be held from July 3 to 13.

Prof. Dr. Nedžad Dukić from the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics in Sarajevo previously told Patria that our country has exceptionally talented mathematicians, and that BiH students bring home medals from various international competitions every year. He hopes that they will bring honor to Bosnia and Herzegovina this year as well.

Let us remind you that Harun Hindija, who is now a successful student at the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics in Sarajevo, won a silver medal at the International Mathematical Olympiad held in Argentina in 2012, while Ratko Darda from Prijedor and Vladimir Ivković from Nevesinje won bronze medals.

The results of the three best Bosnian mathematicians will be announced tomorrow, writes Patria.
