Bosnian karateka Mirnesa Abdić wins Balkan bronze in Podgorica

(Patria) - At the Balkan Karate Championship held in Podgorica, representatives from Bosnia and Herzegovina won silver and bronze medals yesterday, including former European champion Mirnesa Abdić.

Podgorica is hosting the Balkan Karate Championship for seniors and veterans today and tomorrow, with an expected participation of 298 karatekas from 13 countries.

Yesterday, Mirnesa Abdić won a bronze medal after a three-year break, announcing her return to major competitions where she has previously made karate history.

Speaking to the media, she said she had hoped for a medal but did not expect to win one due to an extremely tough draw.

- In the first match, I defeated the Montenegrin competitor, and in the second, I lost to a representative from Croatia who won first place at the European Championship 15 days ago.
In the third match, I defeated Stefani Kresić, who was second at the World Series A last week.

I am especially happy about the medal because I won it after a long break and with two children, and I think I have proven to myself and others that I am still valuable - Abdić added.

In her category, the first place was taken by Croatia's representative Nikolina Golombos, second place by Melina Ibrahimović, while Mirnesa Abdić and Milena Jovanović shared third place.
