(Patria) - After more than three hours of demanding and dangerous intervention, rescuers from the Dubrovnik Port Authority managed to pull the body of a man from the sea, who was pulled by strong waves while taking pictures on the rocks at Buža.
Port Captain Mato Kekez previously confirmed that the body was located about 400 meters in front of the Pile bay, but the retrieval was extremely difficult due to strong southerly winds and waves higher than five meters.
- After multiple attempts, rescuers managed to pull the body from the sea at 1:35 PM - Kekez told Dubrovački dnevnik.
The deceased is a citizen of Bosnia and Herzegovina, who died while taking photos with his family on the rocks. Members of the Port Authority, police, and the Croatian Mountain Rescue Service were on the scene throughout the day.
The circumstances of the tragedy will be determined by further actions of the competent services.
Although information appeared in the media that the operation was suspended after two hours, this is not true. Rescuers tried for more than three hours to retrieve the body of the unfortunate man and did not give up at any point.
Let us remind you, members of the Port Authority, police, and the Croatian Mountain Rescue Service arrived at the scene around noon.
The first to arrive at the scene of the accident was Dubrovnik resident Dominko Radić with his boat, but due to waves higher than five meters and extremely dangerous conditions, he was forced to abandon further participation in the operation after almost two hours.
