Bevanda: Amendments to VAT Law Impossible Without Analysis

(Patria) - Deputy Chairman of the Council of Ministers of BiH and Minister of Finance and Treasury Vjekoslav Bevanda does not support the proposal for amendments to the Value Added Tax (VAT) Law which was sent to an urgent procedure today by the Speaker of the House of Representatives of the Parliamentary Assembly of BiH, Denis Zvizdić.

Minister Bevanda, who is also the Chairman of the Management Board of the Indirect Taxation Authority (ITA), believes that amendments to the VAT Law without clear foundations and analyses can cause more harm than good.

“Legal amendments at this time, without foundations and clearly stated positive and negative effects, can only cause harm. Such crucial matters must only proceed after clear foundations and the participation of everyone in BiH, and with full consensus,” emphasized Minister Bevanda.

He believes that the proposed amendments to the law, concerning the postponement of VAT payment deadlines, would have only a negative effect. “In my assessment, this would have an immediate effect on the illiquidity of all levels of government, and would have absolutely no effect on assisting the economy.

It is not the time for politicking and creating new crises and bickering in such difficult times. And finally, what would be the purpose of making any decisions that would be the result of outvoting,” concluded Minister Bevanda in his reaction to the initiative for amendments to the VAT Law.
