Bećirović in Paris: OHR and BiH Constitutional Court Play Key Role in Protecting Peace and Stability

(Patria) - BiH Presidency member Denis Bećirović spoke today with President of the French Republic Emmanuel Macron at the Elysée Palace in Paris.

The meeting was also attended by the other two members of the BiH Presidency, as well as EU Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos.

Bećirović thanked Macron and the friendly people of the French Republic for the comprehensive assistance and support they have provided to Bosnia and Herzegovina since gaining independence.

He recalled that 86 French soldiers laid down their lives in peacekeeping missions during the aggression against the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina, which testifies to the deep and lasting connection between the two countries.

Speaking about the situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bećirović emphasized that 2025 was marked by brutal attacks on the constitutional order of BiH and the Dayton-Paris Peace Agreement.

He pointed out that in this context, it is of exceptional importance that France and other strategic partners of Bosnia and Herzegovina specifically support two key institutions that guarantee peace and stability - the Constitutional Court of BiH and the Office of the High Representative of the International Community (OHR).

He stressed that these two institutions have played a key role in protecting the constitutional order and preventing the destabilization of the country. We must be very careful in the coming period.

The BiH Presidency member said that it is important that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the French Republic has most strongly condemned the adoption of unconstitutional laws and decisions in the BiH entity of Rs.

Also, it is very significant that France expresses continuous and strong commitment to the independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Bećirović assessed that it is of exceptional importance for BiH to become a member of NATO and the European Union (EU) as soon as possible.

He particularly emphasized the significant role of France, as one of the key members of NATO and the EU, in supporting reforms and the Euro-Atlantic future of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

President Macron unequivocally expressed the support of the French Republic for the independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

He stressed that France will continue to provide strong support for strengthening state institutions, implementing reforms, and the process of bringing Bosnia and Herzegovina closer to NATO and EU membership.

Bećirović invited President Macron to visit Bosnia and Herzegovina in 2026.
