Bećirović in Cairo: It is important to strengthen BiH's position in Egypt and the Arab world

(Patria) - Chairman of the Presidency of BiH Denis Bećirović, during an official visit to Egypt, spoke with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi.

Chairman of the Presidency of BiH Dr. Denis Bećirović spoke with the President of the Arab Republic of Egypt, Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, in Cairo as part of an official visit to Egypt. This is the first visit by a Chairman of the Presidency of BiH to an important Arab country in the last fourteen years.

Bećirović was warmly received at the Al-Ittihadiya Presidential Palace in Cairo with the highest state honors. The goal of the visit is to improve overall relations between Bosnia and Herzegovina and Egypt, given that there has been no exchange of visits at the highest level for a longer period.

Bećirović emphasized that he wants to deepen the friendly ties between Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Arab Republic of Egypt. In this context, he stressed that it is very important for Bosnia and Herzegovina to build friendships and alliances across all meridians and parallels, and pointed out the need to strengthen the position of our country in Egypt and the Arab world. Bosnia and Herzegovina is a blend of different cultures and civilizations and can serve as a bridge of cooperation between Europe and countries on the African and Asian continents.

Bosnia and Herzegovina conducts a principled and peaceful foreign policy, and as such is recognized as a reliable partner and a factor contributing to the building of peace and security, said Bećirović.

He emphasized that after Bosnia and Herzegovina achieved independence, Egypt was among the first countries to open an embassy in Bosnia and Herzegovina, extending a firm hand of friendship, which our country has not forgotten. During the aggression against Bosnia and Herzegovina, Egypt led a strong action to establish peace, advocating for the initiation of a reconciliation process in Bosnia and Herzegovina, as well as for the comprehensive reconstruction of our country and its political and economic stability, Bećirović stated.

In a cordial conversation, Chairman of the Presidency of BiH Bećirović and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi emphasized that the two countries have good and friendly relations, which has been confirmed many times. Dr. Bećirović and El-Sisi stressed that they want to strengthen and improve relations between the two countries, and that this meeting is an opportunity to intensify bilateral cooperation and overall ties, with an emphasis on strengthening economic relations.

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi stated that his country openly supports Bosnia and Herzegovina's path towards the European Union.

The Chairman of the Presidency of BiH informed President El-Sisi about the importance of adopting the resolution on July 11 as the International Day of Remembrance and Commemoration of the Genocide in Srebrenica committed in 1995.

Bećirović and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi paid special attention to the current situation in the Middle East, about which they spoke by phone in November last year.

Denis Bećirović emphasized that Bosnia and Herzegovina respects the important role and actions of Egypt, as a regional power, in resolving the current situation in Gaza, in accordance with international law, in order to stop the violence and killing of innocent Palestinian people. He said that stopping the war, achieving a just peace, and establishing two states - Israel and Palestine - is the only long-term solution, and that Bosnia and Herzegovina will continue to insist on this solution at all international forums.

During the talks in Cairo, it was noted that visits at high and highest levels are very important for intensifying bilateral cooperation. In this context, Bećirović extended an invitation to Egyptian President El-Sisi for a return visit to Bosnia and Herzegovina.

In honor of the Chairman of the Presidency of BiH Denis Bećirović and the delegation, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi hosted a ceremonial lunch at the presidential palace.
