Bećirović with AFET Members: Protection of BiH's Constitutional Order is a Fundamental Prerequisite for Preserving Peace and Stability

(Patria) - BiH Presidency member Denis Bećirović held a meeting today with members of the European Parliament's Committee on Foreign Affairs (AFET) who are visiting Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The delegation is led by Matjaž Nemec, chair of the AFET ad hoc delegation for BiH, and includes Christophe Gomart, Tonino Picula, Marta Temido and Helmut Brandstätter.

During the talks, Bećirović provided the European Parliament representatives with a detailed overview of the current political and security situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

He recalled that the anti-Dayton activities of the former president of the BiH entity of Republika Srpska and his associates had slowed down Bosnia and Herzegovina's European and Euro-Atlantic path.

He particularly emphasised that the protection of the constitutional order of the state of Bosnia and Herzegovina is a fundamental prerequisite for preserving peace and stability in our region.

Bećirović pointed out the importance of decisive and unambiguous support from EU institutions for Bosnia and Herzegovina, especially in the process of implementing reforms, strengthening the rule of law and meeting the criteria from the European integration process.

In this context, he also thanked the members of the European Parliament who have clearly identified the key actors threatening peace and stability in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the region.

The members of the European Parliament delegation stated that they will continue to support the European integration process of Bosnia and Herzegovina and encouraged all political actors in the country to accelerate the reform processes.

Bećirović thanked the AFET members for their continuous support and interest in Bosnia and Herzegovina, stressing that cooperation with EU institutions is key to the successful implementation of reforms and achieving progress on the European path of our country.

The interlocutors agreed that the integration of Bosnia and Herzegovina into the EU is of strategic importance for the stability and progress of the entire Western Balkan region.
