Bećirović promises remembrance, but justice for living heroes is missing: From martyrs to defendants!

By: Amina Čorbo-Zećo

The Chairman of the BiH Presidency, Denis Bećirović, addressed the media today after marking Martyrs' Day at the Kovači cemetery. Bećirović said that we must preserve the culture of remembrance, the truth about BiH's heroes, and teach new generations so that evil never happens again.

And how do we and what do we teach new generations? I am sure that Bećirović knows that in schools within the regular educational system, there are no facts that would place heroes where they belong. History has not been written, and it will be when Serb-Chetnik ideology completes the initiated process.

Through verdicts against heroes who survived, and today, in a wave of indictments by the BiH Prosecutor's Office for war crimes, it is proven that they are innocent and that they defended their homeland from aggression, as members of the only legal military formation on the soil of BiH in the 90s.

In the war, we defended the country from the aggressor with weapons, and our strongest defense today are the verdicts and facts established at the ICTY thanks to legal experts from around the world, who fought and won the truth about BiH in the Hague courtrooms.

Today, that truth is being destroyed by prosecutors from the BiH Prosecutor's Office, led by Milanka Kajganić, Mladen Vukojičić, Marijan Čobović, Vedran Mijović, formerly Miroslav Janjić, Gordana Tadić, and others who are filing mostly fabricated indictments in the service of revisionism.

Bosnia and Herzegovina has been a target for many deniers and various "experts" for years who impose their narratives and historical revisionism on us, while honorable defenders are forced to defend themselves in fabricated court proceedings. But, it is also partly up to us, Bosnians, Herzegovinians, Bosniaks, but also all those who love this country.

In 1992, we stood up to defend the country, but it seems that today we are not ready to fight for truth and justice. Time is running out, so it would be quite appropriate for Bećirović and others like him to remember, and I am sure he is aware of what is happening before the BiH Court. However, while he is seeking a meeting with the NATO Secretary General, living heroes and defenders are clearly going out of his sight.

If they defend themselves with facts that no one can refute the Hague verdicts, I remind them of the Dobrovoljačka case (legally concluded in The Hague and courts in London and Vienna), but also the case of the convicted Sakib Mahmuljin.

The commander of the Army of RBiH, General Rasim Delić, proved during his trial in The Hague that the volunteers in the El-Mudžahid Detachment were outside the control of the Army of RBiH and that they fought by their own rules. After that, the BiH Prosecutor's Office filed an indictment against General Sakib Mahmuljin, commander of the Third Corps, in order to change the factual situation established in The Hague, and they succeeded!

We never learned the fate of the cases from the Hague A list, which the domestic judiciary was supposed to handle, but they completely devastated them and invented cases like Dobrovoljačka, Jošanica, Čemerno, or the cases of Atif Dudaković and Ramiz Dreković.

Simply put, according to the standards established by the BiH Prosecutor's Office, the defense of the state and the defeat of the aggressor forces is prohibited, and it is a war crime, even though, according to International Humanitarian Law, it is completely legitimate to defeat aggressor forces and defend the state.

Where the Army of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina achieved its greatest successes and defeated the aggressor Army of Serbia and the Army of the self-proclaimed Srpska BiH, indictments for joint criminal enterprise and alleged crimes against the civilian population followed.
Therefore, on Martyrs' Day, besides remembering those who gave their lives, we must also remember the living – those who are fighting their battles today, often without the support they deserve.

Because justice for them is not just a legal issue – it is a matter of the dignity of the state.
