(Patria) - As part of an official visit to Germany, the Chairperson of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Denis Bećirović, met today with President Frank-Walter Steinmeier.
During a substantive conversation, Bećirović gifted President Steinmeier the book "Night Council" by Bosnian-Herzegovinian writer Dževad Karahasan in German.
Karahasan and his works are indicators of the common European heritage and cultural interconnectedness of Bosnia and Herzegovina and Germany.
In his speech on the occasion of the reception for members of the diplomatic corps in January 2024, Steinmeier specifically mentioned Dževad Karahasan, whose work and literary output he particularly respects.
Dževad Karahasan (1953-2023) was one of the most popular Balkan writers in the German-speaking world.
He lived and worked in Graz, Austria, and frequently stayed in Berlin as a guest lecturer, where many of his plays were also performed.
