(Patria) - Chairman of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina Denis Bećirović spoke with President of the Republic of Finland Alexander Stubb during a working visit to the Republic of Finland. This is the first working visit of the Chairman of the Presidency of BiH to the Republic of Finland since the establishment of diplomatic relations between Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Republic of Finland in 1995.
During a substantive conversation in Helsinki, it was noted that bilateral relations between Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Republic of Finland are good and friendly, but that there is room for improving cooperation, especially in the economic field. Also, the interlocutors emphasized the importance of visits at the highest level and, in that context, the importance of the first visit of the Chairman of the Presidency of BiH Denis Bećirović to the Republic of Finland.
Bećirović thanked President Stubb for the principled support that Finland provides to Bosnia and Herzegovina in the process of European and Euro-Atlantic integration. He stressed that Finland's continued support in the process of European integration of Bosnia and Herzegovina is very significant, as evidenced by the granting of candidate status to Bosnia and Herzegovina for EU membership and the decision to open accession negotiations between Bosnia and Herzegovina and the EU.
Also, Bećirović thanked for the support of the Republic of Finland during the adoption of the Resolution on July 11 as the International Day of Remembrance and Commemoration of the Srebrenica Genocide of 1995 in the UN General Assembly. Finland was one of the co-sponsors of the Srebrenica Resolution.
Chairman of the Presidency of BiH Denis Bećirović informed President Stubb about current political, security and other challenges in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the region.
He once again congratulated the Republic of Finland on its full membership in NATO, adding that Finland's admission to NATO at the time of the Russian invasion of Ukraine contributed to strengthening security and stability in northern Europe.
He said that Bosnia and Herzegovina does not give up on its strategic goal of becoming a full member of NATO and that it will continue to build strong relations with partner countries, including Finland. Bosnia and Herzegovina's entry into NATO membership would guarantee long-term peace in the Western Balkans and an end to the danger of hegemonic ideologies and policies.
President of the Republic of Finland Alexander Stubb said that his country will continue to support the European and Euro-Atlantic perspective of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Also, he emphasized that Finland will continue its firm support for the development of an independent, sovereign and multi-ethnic Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Chairman of the Presidency of BiH Denis Bećirović expressed gratitude to the Republic of Finland for its exceptional support in the process of improving peace and stability in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the region in the past period, Bećirović's cabinet announced.
