(Patria) – US Ambassador Michel Murphy and BiH Presidency member Denis Bećirović joined the participants on a part of the final leg of the March of Peace and addressed the media. Both visited the Srebrenica Memorial Center before arriving at the March of Peace and paid tribute to the victims who will find their final rest on July 11.

Bećirović stated that it is very important to preserve the truth about the genocide against Bosniaks in and around Srebrenica.

“And to support all activities that signify a culture of remembrance. It does not exist for revenge, but for a future in which victims will be respected, but in which people will be oriented towards a common future,” said Bećirović.

Ambassador Murphy said it was an honor and a privilege to be there to remember the genocide that occurred in July 1995.

“It truly takes a lot of courage and strength to deal with the terrible memory of the genocide, to deal with the pain and loss. But it also takes a lot of courage and strength for those participating in the March to carry the message of peace and reconciliation every year.

The US believes it is very important to remember what happened, the 1995 genocide, to pay respect to the participants of the March, but more importantly, to make it clear that the US stands with the people of BiH.

And to remind authorities at all levels, including Republika Srpska, that we must accept the facts about what happened here, to teach children from all over the world the truth about what happened here. We must continue to search for the missing, investigate, prosecute those who committed genocide, and hold them accountable,” Murphy conveyed.
