Baroness Anelay on first official visit to BiH

Baroness Joyce Anelay, the UK Prime Minister's Special Representative for Preventing Sexual Violence in Conflict, is coming on her first official visit to Bosnia and Herzegovina on Wednesday, September 2nd, reports the Patria News Agency.  

Her visit signifies the support that the UK Government provides to post-conflict societies, such as Bosnia and Herzegovina, in ending the terrible scourge of sexual violence in conflict.

At the premises of the non-governmental organisation Medica Zenica in Zenica, Baroness Anelay will meet with representatives of six non-governmental organisations (Medica Zenica, Udružene žene Banja Luka, Viva žene Tuzla, BIRN, TRIAL, and PCRC), who work across Bosnia and Herzegovina to provide support to survivors of wartime sexual violence, to discuss achievements and challenges in their work, but also to hear from them how lessons learned in Bosnia and Herzegovina can be applied to other parts of the world where such crimes have also occurred. 

Baroness Anelay will also visit the Maya Resource and Consultancy Centre in Zenica, which was built with the help of the United Kingdom and provides 24-hour support to survivors of sexual violence and their families, where she will talk with some of the beneficiaries.
