Baroness Joyce Anelay today visited the premises of the non-governmental organization Medica Zenica, and spoke with representatives of six non-governmental organizations as well as victims of sexual violence, writes the BH News Agency Patria.
Medica Zenica has been providing assistance to thousands of women for 20 years, and a unique support phone for victims has recently become active.
- It is a great pleasure for me to visit BiH and to be able to meet women who have survived sexual violence. The organizations I will meet today help victims in solving their everyday problems. It is an honor for me that the United Kingdom participates in and supports this work and these organizations - Baroness Anelay stated.
- Victims of wartime rape, whether men or women, must be helped. The work of NGOs is extremely important, as is the establishment of protocols at the level of municipal and cantonal courts so that they can help victims - stated Nada Golubović, representative of the Association of Women Banja Luka.
Sabiha Husić, president of the Medica Association, said that media support is very important in raising awareness when we talk about survivors of sexual violence and wartime rape.
- Many would say that the story of the war is over, but as long as anyone carries the burden of trauma and wonders if they will have anything to eat tomorrow, that story is not over - Husić said.
Baroness Anelay was accompanied by the British Ambassador to BiH, Edward Ferguson.
