Baljić: We should test as much as possible, but according to strictly defined criteria

(Patria) - Rusmir Baljić, head of the Infectious Diseases Clinic at KCUS, said that out of 480 tested citizens, 52 are positive, and unfortunately, we have three deaths.

"We in BiH have definitely started with all infection prevention measures on time. It is not treated with any medication. The only way to stop the infection is to stop its spread. That is why it is important to respect all introduced measures. The number of infected people will grow in the next two weeks, but by mid-April, I hope, we will be on a downward trend in terms of infected people," said Baljić.

He emphasized that measures began to be introduced in BiH at the end of January.

Answering Patria's question regarding testing, Baljić says that they fully follow the World Health Organization.

"And I say that we should test as much as possible, but mass testing cannot be done on people who do not have symptoms. Tests can be false negatives, and that is indeed a problem. Every test sent to KCUS is processed," said Baljić.

He added that epidemiologists in the field determine who will be tested.

"Regarding the new batch of tests, it will arrive next Friday, not this one. Around 150,000 tests are arriving," said Baljić, not knowing the reason for the delay in sending the tests, emphasizing that there is no cure, nor a vaccine.

Speaking about the criteria for testing - fever, malaise, it is necessary for the epidemiological picture to be clear, which means that the person has been abroad in the last 14 days or has someone in close contact who is in isolation.

"I ask for the truth, because several times due to untrue answers, they have endangered doctors as well," said Baljić.

Edin Ramić, Minister for Displaced Persons in FBiH, spoke about announcing a public call in which he will refund three months of workers' insurance costs for all companies that have three or more workers and do not lay off returnee workers in RS.

"We will support all humanitarian organizations from our projects and make their work easier. Returnees can expect help from the Ministry," added Ramić.
