Bajram in the Spirit of Faith and Togetherness: Thousands of Believers at Prayer in the Heart of Sarajevo

(Patria) - Muslims across Bosnia and Herzegovina are celebrating Kurban-Bajram today, one of the most important Islamic holidays. The central Bajram celebration of the Islamic Community in BiH was held at the Gazi Husrev-beg Mosque in Sarajevo, where the Bajram prayer was performed.

Already in the early morning hours, a large number of believers from Sarajevo and other parts of the country gathered in the courtyard and inside this mosque – a symbol of spirituality and togetherness. The morning prayer was performed at 4:30 AM, followed by a fitting religious program featuring renowned Quran reciters, and performers of ilahijas and qasidas.

The Bajram sermon was delivered by the director of the Gazi Husrev-beg Madrasa, Mr. Dževad Pleh, while the Bajram sermon after the prayer was given by the Reis-ul-ulema of the Islamic Community in BiH, Husein ef. Kavazović.

Today, on the occasion of Kurban-Bajram, Reis-ul-ulema Kavazović will host the traditional Bajram greetings at the Management Building of the Riyaset in Kovači, from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM. A Bajram reception for guests is also announced for this evening, starting at 7:00 PM.

Kurban-Bajram, also known as Hadži-Bajram, is celebrated by the sacrifice of a kurban, whose meat is distributed to the poor, relatives, friends, and neighbors, and by the Hajj pilgrimage. This year, 2,222 citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina are performing the Hajj.

Bajram lasts for four days, and Muslims traditionally welcome and celebrate it in the spirit of solidarity, gratitude, and togetherness.
