Bajram prayer recited in the renovated mosque in Milatkovići near Čajniče after more than eight decades

(Patria) - The central celebration on the occasion of Ramadan Bajram in the area of the Mufti of Goražde was held in the mosque in Milatkovići near Čajniče, where the Bajram prayer was led by the Mufti of Goražde Remzija-ef. Pitić.

This event is given special significance by the fact that the Bajram prayer was recited in this mosque for the first time in more than 80 years, since the building was demolished during World War II. A large number of believers from Čajniče, Goražde, as well as other places, gathered to celebrate Bajram together at a place with strong symbolic value, writes Preporod.

With the renovation of the mosque in Milatkovići, religious life is returning to this area. Recently, the first Tarawih prayer was also recited in the same mosque after 82 years, which further confirms the importance of this project for the local community and the returnee population.

The chief imam of the Council of the Islamic Community (MIZ) Čajniče, Avdo-ef. Šišić, recalled the renovation process and the people who initiated it.

– They have practically brought that process to an end. After more than eight decades, Tarawih and Bajram prayers have been recited again, and God willing, we are planning the official opening of the mosque in the summer – said Šišić.

As explained, the exact year of construction of the old mosque is not known, but it is assumed to date from the Ottoman period. There are also indications that it had the characteristics of a military mosque, which was typical for more remote areas. Nearby, there is also an old cemetery with tombstones that testify to the long-term presence of the Muslim population in this area.

The land on which the mosque is located was not owned by the Islamic Community for years, given that the waqf plot was registered to the municipality. Upon completion of the procedure at the end of 2021, the land was returned to the Islamic Community, creating conditions for the renovation of the building.

The renovation of the mosque in Milatkovići is part of the continuous activities of the Islamic Community aimed at protecting waqf property and strengthening religious life in returnee communities.

On the second day of Bajram, the commemoration of the Day of Martyrs is planned in cooperation with the Organization of Families of Martyrs and Fallen Soldiers of BPK Goražde. The program starts at 9:30 AM at the central memorial monument "Goražde – a hero city to its defenders", after which visits to several cemeteries will be organized, and at 11 AM, a khatma prayer will be recited in the Sinan-beg mosque for the souls of the martyrs.
