If until yesterday you spoke of refugees as Muslim animals and terrorists, the image of a dead Syrian boy on the shore matches your wishes and your ideology – wrote the editor of the Croatian portal Index.hr, Matija Babić, on his Facebook profile, reports the Bosnian news agency Patria.
The image of a three-year-old boy whose lifeless body was washed ashore by the sea at the Turkish resort of Bodrum has circulated on social networks and global media channels.
The boy would probably be alive and well today if it weren't for the "complicated paperwork."
As the Canadian National Post writes, the family of little Aylan Kurdi and his two-year-older brother Galip applied for a refugee visa for Canada, but they received a rejection in June due to "complications with refugee applications from Turkey."
Teema Kurdi, the sister of the father of the family, who was the only survivor of the tragedy, said that for months she, along with friends and neighbours, tried to raise money to sponsor their arrival in Canada. She heard the tragic news from the wife of another brother, Mohammad.
"Abdullah called her and just told her that his wife and boys were dead. All he wants now is to go home, bury his family and lie in the grave next to them," said Teema, a hairdresser who has lived in Vancouver for 20 years.
According to her, the family applied for a "G5" refugee visa, and after receiving the rejection, in desperation they tried to flee the war illegally.
- You say the photo should have been censored? Why, don't you like what you see in the mirror? – said Croatian journalist Matija Babić, writes Patria.
