(Patria) - Austrian Vice-Chancellor and leader of the right-wing Freedom Party (FPO) Heinz-Christian Strache resigned today after a corruption scandal involving him was revealed.
Austrian media report that Chancellor Sebastian Kurz accepted the resignation of Vice-Chancellor Strache after a meeting held today in Vienna.
Media previously reported that Strache, along with party vice-president Johann Gudenus, offered state contracts to an alleged relative of a Russian billionaire in exchange for financial support for his party.
Media write that after the resignation, the Austrian Chancellor must decide whether to remain in coalition with Strache's FPO or if early parliamentary elections will be called in the country.
