Austria has sent the army to the border to assist in intensified checks on people due to the increasing number of refugees, Reuters reports, citing a statement from an Austrian official, as reported by the news agency Patria.
At least 2,200 soldiers will assist the police at the border, the Austrian government announced, as reported by "Russia Today".
The Austrian police said this morning that at the crossing of Heiligenkreuz between Hungary and Austria there were 3,000 people at that moment, and that 500 new refugees are arriving by bus every hour.
"In Heiligenkreuz, the situation threatens to escalate," the Austrian police warned.
While over the past ten days the largest number of refugees entered Austria from Hungary via the crossing of Nickelsdorf, during the night the crossing of Heiligenkreuz faced a large wave of migrants.
During today, authorities at Heiligenkreuz expect the arrival of between 5,000 and 10,000 refugees, B92 reports.
