Asphalting and widening of Smaila Šikala street in Boljakov Potok settlement

(Patria) - In Smaila Šikala street, which passes through one of the most densely populated parts of the Novi Grad Sarajevo municipality, the Boljakov Potok settlement, works on asphalting the road have been completed, from the roundabout to the intersection with Ragiba Džinde street.



This is one of the most demanding road reconstruction projects that the Municipality of Novi Grad Sarajevo has realized so far, and as part of it, the road and sidewalks have been widened.

The local road, which is used by public city transport, was in very poor condition, and the prerequisites for its reconstruction were the replacement of the dilapidated water supply network and the resolution of property-legal relations, i.e., land expropriation, which was done in cooperation with the citizens.



The road was about 5.5 meters wide, and the sidewalks were very narrow, and in some parts, they did not exist at all.

In order to enable the widening of the street and the construction of pedestrian paths, it was necessary to remove 27 fences, five garages, and six to seven massive retaining walls, so the new road has been widened to six meters and sidewalks of 1.5 meters each have been built on both sides.



One side of the sidewalk has already been asphalted, while the other will be asphalted in the coming period, and complete horizontal and vertical traffic signage will be installed along the entire road, with one raised platform and a speed bump to calm traffic, which will enable normal movement of two-way motor and pedestrian traffic.

The realization of this project will enable residents easier and safer movement, as well as better connectivity with the main roads.



Before the reconstruction of the road in this street, the entire distribution water supply network was replaced, given that the water pipes were made of cast iron, old and worn out, and over the years they caused significant water loss. This resolved the water supply issue for 170 facilities in this area.



Also, water lines for the side streets of Senada Spahića, Mahmuta Bušatlije, Hadži-Ahmeda Kandelije, and Rifata Burdževića were separated. In addition to replacing the entire water supply network, storm drainage was built from the road, which did not exist before, and a network of optical cables and a new electrical network between two transformer stations were installed.



The project was realized with the exceptional cooperation and understanding of all citizens and owners of land and facilities along the road.
