Appeal for help 'Let's walk together with Asja'

(Patria) - We inform the public that a fundraising campaign for the treatment of Asja Sućeska is underway. Asja is the daughter of Minela Alić - Sućeska, a long-time councilor of the Municipal Council of Stari Grad Sarajevo.

Asja was born on July 25, 2018, with a very rare diagnosis - ARTHROGRYPOSIS. This condition is characterized by limited joint movement and deformities of the extremities. Asja's shoulders, elbows, wrists, hips, knees, and feet are all affected. The treatment consists of medical rehabilitation, which should begin as soon as possible. The treatment itself involves a major process with the involvement of orthopedists, physiatrists, and neuropediatricians, and it lasts for years. The goal is to enable the patient to move independently, without the help of another person or assistive devices. The patient faces many treatments on this path to recovery, such as casting, constant physical therapy, wearing leg and arm orthoses, adequate orthopedic footwear, and surgical treatments.

Additionally, Asja was deprived of oxygen during birth and was unconscious for some time. She was born with two holes in her heart (ASD, VSD), which only closed in the seventh month of her life, and only then did her parents receive approval from the cardiologist to begin physical therapy. Due to inadequate healthcare in Bosnia and Herzegovina, they were advised to contact the children's orthopedic clinic in Aschau, Germany, and learned that the treatment costs amount to approximately 100,000 euros.

We ask everyone who is able to help Asja, so that we can see her walking and enjoying playing with her peers in the future, and not be different from other children.
