Anti-fascists mark anniversary of Igman March

The 79th anniversary of the "Igman March", the legendary breakthrough of the First Proletarian Brigade from Romanija to the free territory in Foča, was marked. Due to epidemiological measures, significantly fewer people attended the event compared to previous years. This year too, messages of humanity, solidarity, freedom, and unity were sent.

Flags, songs, memories, and anti-fascists from all corners of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Despite the coronavirus, they gathered again this year to pay tribute and to remind.

Ramiz Karanović, a war orphan, is also attending the marking of the glorious anniversary this year. He tells us that he will come as long as he lives, that people need to speak out, because chauvinism has infiltrated all pores of Bosnian society.

The legendary breakthrough of the First Proletarian Brigade from Romanija to the free territory in Foča, better known as the Igman March, was carried out on the night between January 27 and 28, 1942. In deep snow and extreme cold, at minus 38 degrees Celsius, 800 fighters in the brigade, which included members of all nations, marched for 17 hours. It was one of the most important partisan campaigns that laid the foundation for the formation of a unified army.

But that is not an easy task, because anti-fascism as an achievement is neglected in Bosnia and Herzegovina today.

Numerous delegations laid wreaths and flowers, including anti-fascists from Montenegro and Serbia.

This year too, the traditional march was held, and the anniversary of the glorious breakthrough was marked with a fitting program.
