Andelija: Increased electricity consumption, but no reason for concern

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - I would ask everyone to understand that Elektroprivreda is part of the protection and rescue system, because by ensuring electricity, we ensure the functioning of vital segments of society, especially healthcare, education, and the police, said the General Director of the Public Enterprise Elektroprivreda BiH, Admir Andelija, at a regular press conference of the Federal Staff.

"Our task is to ensure a secure supply of electricity. Given that we have distance learning, the obligation for a functional electricity system is even more important. The electricity system is stable," explained Andelija.

He notes that the production plan is being realized in accordance with the plans.

"In March, we have an increase in domestic consumption of about 6 percent, and in April, even more compared to the months of the previous year. The majority of consumers are households. The work of the electricity sector is harmonized with the measures and recommendations of the Government of the FBiH," points out Andelija.

He emphasized that this morning "satisfaction was noted among people who have emerged from the 14-day quarantine work regime."

He reminded that they decided that Elektroprivreda will not disconnect or warn customers who have not paid their bills during the pandemic, and no interest will be charged.

"All mines are achieving results in this period that they had in the previous period. Coal delivery to power plants is carried out regularly, and I want to thank Željeznice FBiH for that," concluded Andelija.

"I want you to understand that EP BiH is a company of strategic importance for the FBiH and its stable operation is key to the stability of the system. About 20 days ago, we said that we would suspend all disconnections due to debt or non-payment. By adopting the law in Parliament, we will be able to omit the calculation of interest. Anything beyond that would disrupt the system. A moratorium on payment would mean that we would be left without raw materials in power plants and mines. A moratorium can significantly endanger the stability of the electricity system," Andelija answered a journalist's question about whether EP BiH will introduce a moratorium on paying electricity bills.
