Ana Mrnjavac, a woman of stone, a woman who never said a single harsh word in public!

Ana Mrnjavac! A woman of stone! A woman of dignity! A woman whose child does not sit next to her due to the mischief of other children. A woman who never said a single harsh word in public, a word that could disturb others. A woman who does not even think of shattering stones with the loudness of her grief! A woman who carries her pain with dignity and silence.

A mother who knows what pain is. Who lives with pain. A woman whose child is a victim of peer violence. A woman from whom one should learn what dignity, love and pride are. A woman whose silent suffering echoes louder than all spoken words and cries! A woman who knows how to freeze every step that starts to go out of control. A woman who walks from stone to meadow and back to stone. Again and again. Who adorns the stone with a tear and some green leaf and there says everything her sad heart shapes.

In the silence and cold of the stone, she utters her confession and moves on. Perhaps she even goes back, but she moves quietly in her dignity. Her silent pain echoes like a scream. A scream that gives no peace. That scatters over all of us. And today, eight years later, her gaze into the distance and her pride defy evil. Again in the same way she looks into chestnut eyes and the way those chestnut eyes look at us. Constantly watching us from everywhere and asking how we are.

Those eyes tell us that he is fine. There in eternity. But when we meet his gaze, I wonder, can anyone truly be fine. Can anyone be the same person who looks at life with devastating ease? They cannot and must not. And while the boy with chestnut eyes dreams, she strokes his stone hair, and we collide with her pain. Speechless to say anything. Perhaps it is better that we say nothing.

Let the echo from afar crash upon us and sober us up. Bring us back to the reality of this snowy day and lead us through the river of memories to that day. The day that defeated humanity. And us within it. People disappeared somewhere then. They went down paths of darkness and insensitivity. And she? She remained to defy the inhuman. But not with inhumanity, but with love and warmth. Ana Mrnjavac. A woman of stone!
