American political portal Politico reveals details from Berlin

(Patria) - The reputable American political portal Politico has revealed a series of details from the Western Balkans leaders' meeting held last Monday in Berlin, hosted by French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Angela Merkel.

At the Western Balkans summit, hosts Angela Merkel and Emmanuel Macron stated that the Kosovo dialogue had reached proportions inconsistent with the EU's positions.

According to the report, this primarily refers to a solution to the Kosovo problem that would entail the demarcation between Serbs and Albanians, i.e., demarcation along ethnic lines, which is an idea accepted by parts of the US administration and which has given wind to the sails of the parties in the dialogue to move in that direction.

"Despite the disagreement, both Macron and Merkel had hoped to leverage the momentum of the agreement between Greece and North Macedonia to achieve some breakthrough in Serbia and Kosovo. They were disappointed. The meeting, which included leaders from Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Montenegro, and North Macedonia, and which was also supposed to focus on the region's countries' intentions to join the EU, quickly got bogged down in the quagmire between Serbia and Kosovo, drawing criticism that Berlin and Paris had only worsened the situation," Politico's text states.

Kosovo President Hashim Thaci supported some form of agreement with Belgrade, but the high tariffs on goods from Serbia and BiH imposed by Kosovo, which is the main stumbling block between Belgrade and Pristina, fall under the jurisdiction of Haradinaj, his political opponent.

Haradinaj made it clear that his government will not abandon the tariffs until Serbia, which still considers Kosovo its province, formally recognizes its sovereignty.
