(Patria) - US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen yesterday warned of the possibility of global economic damage from the increasingly tense situation in the Middle East.
She promised that the US and its allies would not hesitate to impose sanctions on Iran to counter "malicious and destabilizing activities," reports RSE.
New US sanctions on Iran could, she stated, reduce the country's oil export capacity.
- I expect we will take additional sanctions measures against Iran in the coming days - Yellen stated at a press conference in Washington.
According to her, Iran's massive missile attack on Israel indicates the importance of using US economic tools in response to the country's "malicious activity".
- From the attacks carried out this weekend to the Houthi attacks in the Red Sea, Iran's actions threaten the stability of the region and could cause spillover economic damage - she asserted.
