(Patria) - Amel Tuka, BiH's best athlete, won first place at the Ninth International Athletics Meeting in the Italian town of Castiglione della Pescaia.
Tuka ran the 800-meter track in 1:46.21, leaving behind Kenyan Melly (1:47.36) and Italian Romani (1:50.62). Given the difficult weather conditions, i.e., the rain that fell the entire time, Amel is satisfied with the result.
"The rain was the biggest problem for us athletes throughout the meeting. It rained during warm-ups and during the race, and it made things very difficult for us, so I am very satisfied with the result I achieved. This is my first race of the season, and I ran under 1:47, which was the goal," says Tuka, who is already expected to compete in the Diamond League in Stockholm on May 30.
"Just looking at the start list, which includes Ryan Sanchez, then Peter Bol, Marcin Lewandowski, Sowinski, Deng, Kramer, Saruni, and Kipkoech, is enough to show how strong the competition is. However, in Stockholm, I first expect to beat myself, given that my goal is to run under 1:46, which is realistic with such competition. I'm taking it step by step and I'm really looking forward to competing in the Diamond League to see where I stand," are the words of Amel Tuka.
