Amel Tuka: I remain firmly grounded, in athletics you don't live off past glory

Amel Tuka landed at Sarajevo Airport after winning a bronze medal in the 800 metres at the World Athletics Championships in Beijing.

He was greeted by family members and friends, as well as numerous journalists. However, citizens did not turn out in large numbers to welcome the bronze medalist Tuka.

A press conference was also held, addressed by Suad Kaknjo, president of the Athletics Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, who said that the authorities should restore dignity to athletics.

Marijan Kvesić, president of the Olympic Committee of Bosnia and Herzegovina, also spoke, stating that Amel Tuka had written golden pages in Bosnian athletics.

- I believe we will continue to enjoy his performances, next year at the Olympic Games - Kvesić said, adding that he demands from those who can to change the attitude towards sport.

In his address, Amel thanked everyone for their support, especially his parents, sister, and friends who are always there for him and positive.

- I am overjoyed and very proud of what I have done for my country, and I think it deserves it. The people in Bosnia and Herzegovina were an additional motivation, and I tried to win a medal - Tuka said.

He also said that in athletics you don't live off past glory, but you always have to achieve new and better results.

- I want to stay firmly grounded. Beijing is already behind me, believe me, I have only watched my race once. This is just the beginning, and the main man is my coach - Tuka said, and called on all those who support him now to do so even when there are setbacks, because that is sport.

He also commented on the French athlete who accused him of doping, saying that he feels sorry for him and understands him because he will no longer be among the favourite athletes.

After Sarajevo, a ceremonial welcome awaits Tuka in Zenica at Kamberovića polje.
