(Patria) - The Mayor of Sarajevo Samir Avdić, together with the Ambassador of Palestine to Bosnia and Herzegovina Rezeq Namoora, laid flowers at the Memorial to the Murdered Children of Besieged Sarajevo 1992 - 1995, and then white doves were released, marking September 21, the International Day of Peace. Representatives of the Association of Parents of Murdered Children of Besieged Sarajevo 1992-1995 and students from Sarajevo elementary schools participated in this activity.
Ambassador Namoora stated that with this act they are sending warm greetings to all citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the entire Palestinian people, especially the Palestinians in the blockaded Gaza Strip.
"Only one who has experienced something similar can understand someone who is suffering. Unfortunately, Sarajevo and BiH have experienced something similar, and many children have died. In Gaza, it is even worse, where tens of thousands of children have died," he said.
Expressing solidarity with the families of the victims of Sarajevo and BiH during the aggression, Namoora emphasized that today's event is seen as an expression of Sarajevo's solidarity with the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip, and especially with the children.
"Palestine will never forget who stood by it, who expressed solidarity. Our Palestinian people are currently experiencing a genocidal war, the greatest victims of which are children and women. The enemy shows power over innocent and unarmed civilians, children, women," said Namoora and expressed hope that children in Sarajevo, BiH, Palestine, and the whole world will live in peace.
Sarajevo Mayor Avdić also addressed the journalists, emphasizing that they are sending a universal message of peace from Sarajevo, and that this is important considering that Sarajevo went through great ordeals during the siege.
"We must have enough empathy, sensitivity, and awareness that what is happening in the world today is not in the interest of humankind, and the least we can do is send a message of peace from this Memorial to the Murdered Children of Sarajevo, in the company of the Palestinian ambassador," he said.
He added that Sarajevo is an open city, a city of love and an example of coexistence, and that they will always send the message that violence and crimes are always unacceptable.
Avdić, Namoora, and members of the delegations also visited the Memorial Room in Džidžikovac street, which preserves the memory of the 1,601 murdered children of besieged Sarajevo.
