UK Ambassador to BiH Edward Ferguson visited the Ministry of Security of BiH today where he met with Minister Dragan Mektić, and they discussed the security situation, improvement of cooperation, and support for the implementation of projects in the field of security, reports the Bosnian news agency Patria.
Minister Mektić emphasized that the priorities of the Ministry of Security and police agencies at the state level are the fight against terrorism, organized crime and corruption, as well as modern security challenges such as cybercrime. He pointed out that in the coming period, greater attention should be paid to the fight against corruption, where adequate results have not been recorded so far.
- It is necessary to strike more decisively at the main causes and largest sources of these criminal acts, because as long as there is a connection between politics and corruption, it will be a problem that will hinder progress and improvement of living conditions for citizens - said Mektić.
Also, Mektić informed Ambassador Ferguson about the deradicalization project and the initiative to create a regional center for the fight against illegal arms trade, which in Western European countries is very often used for terrorism and other serious criminal acts.
Ambassador Ferguson informed Mektić about the implementation of projects supporting judicial and police agencies so far, primarily through training of investigators and prosecutors for the fight against crime and corruption, emphasizing the commitment of the United Kingdom to ensure that this cooperation with institutions in BiH is long-term.
