The Embassy of Bosnia and Herzegovina in Ankara has been locked since Monday and will not be open until September 28.
Ambassador Damir Džanko decided to lock the embassy in the week when Muslims celebrate Kurban Bayram, which has caused outrage among Bosnians and Herzegovinians living in Turkey, the Patria news agency has learned from sources in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Considering the weekend before Monday, and the weekend in this week, the BiH Embassy in Ankara will be locked for a total of nine days.
Ambassador Džanko's decision has particularly worried diplomatic staff in the Embassy – who are not of the Islamic faith, and who are now unclear whether they will be denied a hot meal and travel expenses for seven days of work – against their will.
And, if they are paid a hot meal and travel expenses in full, it will be a violation of the law, meaning citizens of BiH will pay for idleness! Sources warn that this is not the first time Ambassador Džanko has locked the BiH Embassy in Ankara.
According to the previously established calendar of official holidays in Turkey, Kurban Bayram was supposed to be celebrated from September 23 at 12 noon until Sunday, but Prime Minister Davutoglu issued a Decree according to which state institutions in Turkey will not work for seven days during Kurban Bayram. However, the Decree is not binding for the embassies of foreign countries in Turkey, nor for the Embassy of Bosnia and Herzegovina, writes Patria.
