US Embassy: Refrain from adopting any declaration

The US Embassy in BiH calls on the MPs of the National Assembly of Republika Srpska to show their commitment to the Dayton Peace Agreement by refraining from adopting any declaration that would negate the authority of the Constitutional Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina, it was announced from the US Embassy, reports the BiH news agency Patria.

Explicitly stating the intention not to implement the upcoming decision of the Constitutional Court in the case concerning the Law on Holidays of Republika Srpska, as three articles of this Declaration currently under consideration do, is very clearly and obviously contrary to the rule of law. Any call to review previously made decisions of the Constitutional Court of BiH is equally unacceptable, considering that the Constitutional Court of BiH is an original and integral part of Annex 4 of the Dayton Peace Agreement – the Constitution of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The US Embassy believes that respect for the rule of law by all parties in BiH is a crucial part of the democratic process. Other measures to address the economic and political challenges facing the country will be even more difficult without this important legal framework and the stability it offers.
