(Patria) - The US Embassy in Sarajevo late last night issued a statement regarding the PIC session, saying that the US will reconsider its role in the current international presence in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
"The public widely expected that at the meeting held on June 3 and 4, the Peace Implementation Council (PIC) would select a new High Representative to ensure stability for Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH).
The US delegation sought to reach a consensus on a jointly accepted vision and a highly qualified Italian candidate, an experienced diplomat, Ambassador Antonio Zanardi Landi.
Secretary Rubio described the Italian candidate before Congress as 'a gentleman whom we think would do a good job helping to ensure some stability in that position.'
The United States takes note of the European failure to reach a consensus on a European candidate and is disappointed that these divisions prevented the PIC from fulfilling its task and electing a new High Representative.
European indecision and the PIC's abandonment of its own duty towards BiH force the United States to reconsider its role in the current international presence in Bosnia and Herzegovina," the statement reads.
