(Patria) - Spanish tennis player Carlos Alcaraz is the new Wimbledon champion.
For the first time in his career, the 20-year-old Spaniard won the most important grand slam of the season, defeating the defending champion Novak Djokovic in a thrilling final.
Djokovic unexpectedly easily won the first set, sweeping Alcaraz with a convincing 6:1. However, the Spaniard showed his teeth in the next set.
After great drama, he won the tie-break (8:6) and leveled the match. He then gained enough confidence to win the third set and return the favor to Djokovic with the same score from the first set – 6:1.
However, in the fourth set, the Serbian tennis player “woke up” and won it 6:3. The match went into the decisive fifth set.
The young Spaniard made a break in the third game and took a 2:1 lead, then 3:1, and later 4:2. He held his serve until the end and ultimately won the deciding set 6:4.
Wimbledon has a new champion, a star on an unstoppable rise.
Alcaraz thus retained the number one spot on the ATP list, while Djokovic remains second.
