Alarm from Mostar: Security situation in Herzegovina increasingly complex

(Patria) - The Association of Independent Intellectuals Krug 99 – Forum Neretva organized its third session in Mostar, this time on the topic “Review of the security situation in Herzegovina“. The introductory speaker was Dr. Semir Šarić, a security expert, who spoke about the current situation, noting that the causes of the current security situation date back to the period after the signing of the Dayton Agreement.

- There are also certain centers of power or politics that need “disorder“ in Herzegovina, as well as certain criminal structures, and even intelligence centers from the surrounding region, which should not be ignored. Mostar and Herzegovina are volatile, Bosniaks and Croats are confronted here, and these processes and negative aspects can easily be complicated to the level of escalation and loss of control, stated Professor Šarić.

Unfortunately, we are discussing security issues in Herzegovina. When I say “unfortunately“, the reason is that the situation is bad, warned the president of Forum Neretva, Edin Batlak.

- As responsible, free-thinking individuals, we are obliged to react to these phenomena. We live here, our future is here, and we want to arrange it in the best possible way. If there is no security, there is no possibility for development and normal life. Herzegovina is sensitive in this regard; we want to point out the problems, as well as the directions for solving them. The introductory speaker is a man of practice, a doctor of science and a professor at the University “Džemal Bijedić“ with rich experience gained in security agencies, and also a man from this area, added Batlak.

The session participant was also the president of the Youth Forum of Krug 99, Muhamed Hamzić.

- Congratulations to Forum Neretva on this session in Mostar. The situation is specific, the topic is current. Recently, you see threats, fan incidents, certain politicians announcing incidents, creating a security vacuum and insecurity among citizens. We want to respond by raising awareness among citizens about all possible security aspects in the coming period that can be expected, stated Hamzić.

The session was attended by about thirty members of Krug 99, citizens of Mostar and Herzegovina, and several officials from the security sector.

After an exceptionally high-quality discussion, it was concluded that ANI Krug 99-Forum Neretva will soon inform the domestic and international public about the very complex security situation and the concern of the citizens of Herzegovina, as well as the justified fear that the situation could spiral out of control and escalate with tragic consequences. It was emphasized that the greatest responsibility for the current state of affairs lies with the politically dominant ruling structures, which in various forms have a decisive influence on the prosecutor's office, the judiciary and the security sector.
