If consumers in BiH buy domestic milk, there is no fear of competition from the EU

Dairy farmers in BiH have expressed concern that our country's market could be further flooded with imported milk after milk producers in EU member states had their quotas or production limits lifted, writes the BiH news agency Patria.

Milk producers from BiH fear that large dairy farmers from EU countries will now increase production and further expand into the region, which will not only make it difficult for small dairy farmers in the EU but also for domestic dairy farmers in BiH and the region.

As of April 1, the European Union abandoned milk quotas after 30 years, which more competitive producers welcome with enthusiasm, and less competitive ones with concern. Quotas were introduced in 1984 to prevent milk surpluses. Dairy farmers in the EU can now produce as much milk as they want.

The European Commission recently stated that if consumers buy domestic milk, dairy farmers should not fear large producers from the EU, writes Patria.
