Disciplinary proceedings have still not been initiated against three Bosniak police officers from Vlasenica for using a flag with lilies as a fan prop at a match in Zenica in 2009, which is considered a serious oversight by the police in Republika Srpska, and sources from the Bijeljina Public Security Center hope that disciplinary proceedings will not be initiated at all, as it would be unlawful and cause only headaches for everyone, writes the Bosnian news agency Patria.
This source, who spoke to Patria on condition of anonymity, also reveals that those who filed a complaint against the three police officers will also try to link them to criminal acts, such as arms trafficking, in order to completely degrade the three Bosniak police officers, i.e., to further ensure their sanctioning if the attempt to remove them for using the RBiH flags fails.
Police officers Rašid Zekić, Esmir Saračević and Elvir Patković, all three police officers at the Vlasenica Police Station, have been called to confirm whether they are in the photograph showing a group of fans holding a BiH flag with lilies as a fan prop during the match between BiH and Belgium in Zenica.
Although this is the official flag of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina, which was used as the state flag until 1998 and was internationally recognized as such, it bothered the police structures in RS, which is why the three Bosniak police officers in the photograph were called to give a statement regarding the photo.
The Bosniak police officers are criticized for using the RBiH flags, because that flag was also used as an emblem by the Army of the Republic of BiH during the conflict in BiH from 1992.
A source from the Bijeljina CJB, whose inspectors are handling this controversial case, told Patria that the police officers did not deny the authenticity of the photograph, but also believe that they did not violate any law of BiH, because it is an internationally recognized flag of the RBiH.
Experts have also warned that disciplinary proceedings against the police officers for using the flag with lilies would be a violation of the BiH Constitution, writes Patria.
