Aida Pilav: There is local transmission of the virus, but measures were taken on time

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - In Sarajevo Canton, there are 38 confirmed cases of coronavirus today, said Aida Pilav, president of the Crisis Staff of the Sarajevo Canton.

A total of 481 tests have been performed, and the rate of confirmed cases is relatively low compared to the number of tests.

"At Podhrastovi, there are seven patients, six with a milder clinical picture, one in a more serious condition but not on a respirator," said Pilav.

She pointed out that there have been three deaths in the Sarajevo Canton related to coronavirus.

"The public health measure banning movement for those over 65 is very important. That is the most vulnerable population. The smallest number of confirmed cases is among those under 20. The situation that makes us relaxed is the increased number of tests, but a lower percentage than 10% of infected. We continue to test people who have an epidemiological and medical profile. There is local transmission of the virus, but not with exponential growth. That does not mean we will relax; measures were taken on time," said Pilav.

She added that Sarajevo has secured capacities in case of a larger number of infected, i.e., exceeding hospital capacities.

Also, she said that there are two confirmed cases of coronavirus at the EUFOR base, but that an isolation unit and self-isolation of the infected have been set up there, and they are in constant contact.
